Largescale Blackfish · 眼仁奈 (めじな)
A rockfish of the winter surf — kan-gure. Clear, faintly sweet white flesh with a clean snap; summer fish taste of the seaweed they graze, winter fish of nothing but the cold.
Mejina answers to three names — gure in Kansai, kuro in Kyushu — and to a million anglers it is less a dinner than an opponent: Japan's favorite rock-fishing quarry.
